Workshops are a great way to enrich your knowledge in Middle Eastern Dance (Belly Dance) out of pure curiosity or in addition to regular weekly classes. They usually run for an afternoon on the week-end and are open to all levels of experience!

This seminar series is for all levels and is for anyone who would like to learn to play the Finger Cymbals. We emphasize how to play them like a musical instrument and work on several patterns. We also teach how to incorporate them into your dance routines. The weekly repetition and practice time really work as the feedback from this series has been very positive.
The Finger Cymbals “Tune-Up” will be offered starting March 17 for 4 weeks.

Dancing to a Drum Solo, with live drumming performed by Malcolm Lim. This workshop is a great opportunity for dancers who wish to dance to live music for the first time (just like the dancers in the Middle East).
Dancing Improvisation with Live Drummers: with instruction by musician Malcolm Lim and Lina.Outlines the fundamentals of improvisation, drum solo interpretation, and communication techniques used between the dancer and musicians.
Rhythms of the Middle East:
Learn about the most common rhythms in Middle Eastern music. These are called the Baladi, Saiid’i, Maksoom, and Masmoudi rhythms. Participants learn how to recognize these rhythms and learn how to integrate dance combinations with the music.
More Rhythms of the Middle East:
Focuses on the Malfouf, Ayoub (Zar), Chiftitelli, and Khaleegy rhythms. This workshop is a great asset for those who have an interest in improvisation or creating choreographies.
Sword Dance / Candelabra Workshop:
If you have ever wanted to dance while balancing a sword or other object on your head at the same time, then this workshop is for you!
Veil:
Learn veil technique and how to apply it to both Egyptian “Oriental” and “American influenced” dance routines.
Finger Cymbals, Level 1:
For those who want to learn how to play the Finger Cymbals. Will emphasize the Finger Cymbals as a musical instrument and teach you how to incorporate them into your dancing.
Finger Cymbals, Level 2:
This workshop concentrates on the integration of playing the Finger Cymbals with dancing.
Arm and Hand Movements:
For dancers who desire to have the beautiful arm work that oriental dance is famous for!
Technique Bootcamp:
A technique intensive seminar with body isolations explained and broken down. A great workout!
Finger Cymbals Tune-up:
A four week seminar covering the material from the Level 1 and 2 workshops with weekly practice time.
